Creating an appealing fall bulletin board is a great way to add color and interest to the classroom.

As the back to school bulletin boards lose their luster, many teachers find themselves thinking about using a fall bulletin board theme to spruce things up. Halloween decor is one option, but a lot of teachers are unable to use spooky themes in their schools or need a theme for a second area of their classrooms. For these teachers, ghosts and spiderwebs are out and more traditional autumn themes are in. Fortunately, there are plenty of fall decorating ideas for classrooms.

Apple Harvest Themed Bulletin Board Idea

As September rolls around, apples play a prominent part in back to school displays. If you already have an apple theme up, you can extend the use of at least some of your materials with this "Apple-rific Work" fall bulletin board idea. Harvest the best of the children's schoolwork and display the papers on large apple cutouts hanging from an apple tree made from brown wrapping paper. Pile a few more realistically sized apple cutouts into a bushel basket that you drew or cut out and placed under the tree. If you are working with a small board, you can adjust the theme to display small photos or the names of your students on small apple cutouts and use "Apple-rific Students" as your title.

Fall Leaves Bulletin Board Idea

There is a reason that teachers turn to leaves year after year as their go to fall bulletin board theme. Leaves are colorful, fun and easy to create from construction paper. Instead of a simple border of leaves, why not change things up with a big pile on one side of your bulletin board and a cut out of a rake leaning against the leaves. Title the board "Raking in the A's" and display your students' best work on the blank side of the board.

Owl Fall Bulletin Board Theme

An owl perched on a tree branch is a simple, but effective way to decorate your space. The area under the tree branch provides plenty of room to display smiling faces or great work. Titles such as "Whoo's Ready to Learn" or "Whoo Got an A" work well with this display.

Squirrel Fall Bulletin Board Idea

"Storing up Great Grades" is a fun way to showcase another critter students will associate with fall. Put a squirrel cut out in the bottom left corner, the title across the top and large acorn cutouts in a pleasing pattern on the rest of the board. Pin the students' best work on the acorn cutouts.

Once a teachers starts to think about seasonal bulletin board themes, it is hard to stop coming up with ideas that will appeal to students and are easy enough to create in just an hour or so. Seeing the students get excited about a new theme or sprucing up the room for an open house makes the effort so worthwhile.
